Columnist-evangelist challenges seniors to be productive
Jun 18, 05:45 PM

Art Gabot Madlaing, syndicated columnist of “Health & Wealth” and Evangelist of the Golden Gate Church of Christ, challenged seniors to be more productive during the 112th Philippine Independence Day celebration held last Friday, June 11, 2010 at the OMI Seniors Center, 1948 Ocean Avenue, San Francisco, California.

Some highlights of the Philippine Independence Day celebration were the singing of the Star Spangled Banner and Philippine National Anthem by Armando Ayco; Philippine Independence Brief History narration by Christina N. Ridad; “Carinosa” Dance by OMI seniors; singing of Ako Ay Isang Pinoy” by Alaina Kyra Cagalingan; Symbolic PHILIPPINE Interpretation by selected seniors; Folk Dance Jamboree by Barangay Dance Troupe; and words of commendation by Sharon Long Graham, OMI Seniors Center Administrator.

The columnist-evangelist was invited by Christina N. Ridad, Program Coordinator, as guest speaker to remind them to be more productive. “In the mid 80s, I was also invited by Titus Verzosa, chairperson of the Philippine Independence Week Celebration committee of the Filipino Community of Fresno County, to take the place of the Consul General in San Francisco. This is my second time to be guest speaker replacement during the Philippine Independence Day celebration,” Madlaing explained.

“It is a common misconception among seniors that once somebody retires and reaches the age of 60 or older, a senior is no longer productive. I would like to share with you some facts and proof why this misconception is not true,” the columnist-evangelist said.

Madlaing cited the following facts and proof:

1.late U.S. President Ronald Reagan who achieved the most productive years of the U.S. presidency during his term as the oldest U.S. president which included the Fall of Communism in Russia, tearing down of the Wall of Berlin, unprecedented bipartisan cooperation especially with the Reagan Democrats which resulted in the political and economic prosperity of the United States;

2. Brother in-law S. Bill Jimenez who said after retirement as Supervisor at the California State Insurance Fund, “ There is no retirement for me and any Christian, It’s just a redirection of priorities.” He redirected his priorities on the non-profit ARO Ministries (ARO is LOVE in Pangasinan);

3. Mom Aurora, 87-year-old, who is active JCCAN Client and Associate to help her children, relatives friends and neighbors achieve freedom from the bondage of debt;

4. Virginia J. Madlaing and sisters Trinidad J. Tuliao, Elvira J. Tuliao, Perseveranda J. Trinidad and Felicidad J. Relosimon who at ages past 60, redirected their priorities in helping poor students, parents, children and families in their barrio and church in Cabilocaan, Calasiao, Pangasinan and establishing Community Library for children, students and adults;

5. Atty.Cesar Nalundasan (son of Julio Nalundasan of the infamous Ferdinand Marcos vs. Nalundasan Case) who after retiring as law professor and practicing lawyer, redirected his priorities in lecturing at Marriage Enrichment Seminar and Bible Classes in the Philippines and in the United States;

6.Dr. William S. Banowsky, former Chancellor and President Emeritus of Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, who at age 74, wrote his latest best-selling book “MALIBU MIRACLE.”
