MANILA – President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s first state of the nation address (SONA) will be without much fanfare but a presentation of the problems that he inherited from the past administration and how he intends to address them.
“I stated before, syempre kailangan ng imbentaryo. Nasaan na tayo ngayon? Ano ba mga problemang hinaharap natin ngayon? (Of course, we need an inventory. Where are we now? What are the problems that we are facing today?),” Aquino told reporters when asked about his preparations for the SONA.
“Second broad point would be ano na ginagawa natin sa mga problemang nadiskubre. Yung pangatlo, tine-thresh out pa ng husto, marami tayong proposals for need of the country, especially infrastructure, the major ticket items, and equipment (Second broad point would be what are we doing with these problems that we have discovered. The third point is, we will thresh out the many proposals we have for the need of the country, especially infrastructure, the major ticket items, and equipment),” he said.
In his first days in office, Aquino has been informed of the alleged many irregularities uncovered from the previous administration, which he was ready to share when he faced the nation on July 26, said Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa in a separate interview in Malacanang.
Ochoa said Aquino’s report to the nation would include, “What we have so far found and what we will be doing in the future.”
“Ang mahalaga naman dun will be kung ano ba talaga yung plano namin for this country? Mag focus dun. Yung irregularities kasi we really want to be so sure that they are indeed irregularities (What is important is what are our plans for this country? We will focus on that. Because with the irregularities, we really want to be so sure that they are indeed irregularities),” he added.
On Tuesday, Aquino’s Cabinet will meet in Malacanang to discuss the status report submitted by each department or agency of the government.
Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said each Cabinet member has already submitted their reports to the Office of the Presidential Management Staff, which will be the agenda of the meeting.
Ochoa assured the President will not use any gimmicks in his SONA, unlike his predecessor, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who used three poor children to dramatize the problems of the country.
“He will be straight forward,” said the ES.
Lacierda said the President, in his speech, will not only talk about the real state of the nation but also his platforms and advocacy for the people. (inquirer.net)
