Former pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao will return to the ring Nov. 24 to fight slugger Brandon Rios in a welterweight bout at the Cotai Arena of the swanky Venetian Resort Hotel in Macau.
Top Rank chief executive Bob Arum, who promotes both Pacquiao and Rios, said he expects "an exciting, all-action fight" because of the boxers' aggressive fighting style.

Services in the Bay Area and Central Valley were held this past week for the victims of the San Mateo Bridge fatal limousine fire.
Five Filipino women tragically lost their lives on the evening of Saturday, May 4, when a 1999 Lincoln Town Car caught fire from the rear and erupted into flames. The limo driver and four of the nine passengers in the vehicle survived. The entourage of women, all from the Philippines and connected through their time working at Oakland’s Fruitvale Medical Center, was on their way to celebrate a bridal party at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Foster City for 31-year-old Neriza Fojas.

By JUN MEDINAWASHINGTON – U.S.-based Filipinos voted 10 of 12 administration-backed senatorial candidates in the just-concluded absentee voting that drew almost thrice the turnout compared to the previous mid-term elections.
Reelectionist Francis Escudero topped the Senate race among Pinoys in America with 9,464 votes, followed by Alan Peter Cayetano, 9,174; Grace Poe, 9,029; Loren Legarda, 8,696; Aquilino Pimentel III, 8,448; Bam Aquino, 8,267; Juan Edgardo Angara, 7,735; Richard Gordon, 7,291; Ramon Magsaysay Jr., 7,187; Riza Hontiveros, 6,983; Antonio Trillanes, 6,521 and Juan Miguel Zubiri, 4,908. All were administration candidates except for Gordon and Zubiri, who were aligned with the opposition United Nationalist Alliance.
15% turnout
A total of 14,098 cast their ballots, about 15 percent of the 93,229 registered Filipino-American voters in areas served by the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC and the Consulates General in Agana, Chicago, Honolulu, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco.
The month-long absentee voting was held from April 13 to May 13, with the voters given the option to either vote by mail or in person in duly designated voting venues.
Aquino wins some, loses some

MANILA – President Benigno Aquino III wins, but Vice President Jejomar Binay did not lose either.
Thus did Sen. Serge Osmena, campaign strategist of Team PNoy senatorial ticket, sum up the results of the May 13 midterm elections, the conduct of which has been acknowledged all over as peaceful and orderly for the most part. The handpicked candidates of President Aquino dominated Binay’s bet, 9-3. But many of the United Nationalist Alliance candidates that effectively shore up the image of Binay emerged victorious.
